But then, in 2022, Ye started making antisemitic comments on podcasts, YouTube, and his socials. By May 2025, he dropped a terrible song called Heil Hitler. Since then, he's become kind of an outcast. He lost his billionaire status in 2022 when Adidas and other brands like Balenciaga and The Gap cut ties with him.

Kanye became famous in the early 2000s producing for Roc-A-Fella Records. He made hits for Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Ludacris. His style with soulful samples and hard beats made a change in hip-hop production.

In 2004, Kanye dropped The College Dropout, which was both a hit with critics and fans. It showed his skills as a rapper and storyteller. After that, he released albums like Late Registration, Graduation, Heartbreak, always trying something new with rap and pop. A lot of people think his 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is one of the best ever.

Aside from music, Kanye jumped into fashion. His Yeezy brand with Adidas in 2015 became huge and helped him get that billionaire status. He also started G.O.O.D. Music, his own label, which helped artists like Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and Pusha T.

Back in 2019, Kanye's net worth:

*   Yeezy brand: $500 million

*   Other stuff: $20 million

*  Total assets: $720 million

*  Minus debts: $100 million

*  2019 Net Worth: $600 million

Then in 2021, here's the breakdown

Assets:

*   Real estate: $120 million

*   Music stuff, including G.O.O.D Music: $80 million

*   Yeezy website: $100 million

*   Yeezy brand: $5 billion

*   Gap partnership: $1 billion

*   2021 Net Worth: $6.6 billion

Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta on June 8, 1977. After his parents split when he was three, he moved to Chicago with his mom, Donda West, who was an English professor. She really helped him with his creativity and school work. Growing up in Chicago, he loved art and music. Meeting producer No I.D. helped him get into sampling and beat-making.

West went to the American Academy of Art in Chicago for a bit in 1997 before going to Chicago State University, where his mom taught. But he dropped out at 20 to focus on music, which is where The College Dropout came from.

In the late 90s, West made beats for Chicago artists and worked on his own music. His first production credit was in 1996 on a Grave album. Later, he made tracks for Foxy Brown and Harlem World. Even though he was making hits behind the scenes, West wanted to be a rapper himself.

Kanye West got his big break in the early 2000s with Roc-A-Fella Records. His sound really shaped Jay-Z's The Blueprint album in 2001. He also worked with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, and Ludacris. But West wanted to be a solo artist.

After labels turned him down, Roc-A-Fella signed him in 2002. That year, he was in a car crash and had to have his jaw wired shut. Just weeks later, he recorded Through the Wire, using the accident as inspo. That song became the main track on The College Dropout, which came out in 2004 and was a big success.

In 2005, West dropped Late Registration, a pretty big album with live music and collabs with Jon Brion and Jamie Foxx. It moved over 2.3 million copies in its first year. Then, in 2007, Graduation came out, sounding more electronic and ready for stadiums. It hit #1 on Billboard and beat 50 Cent's Curtis in sales, which was a big deal back then.

Then, in 2008, West switched things up with 808s & Heartbreak. It used a lot of Auto-Tune, was super emotional, and influenced a lot of new artists like Drake, Kid Cudi, and Travis Scott. In 2010, he came back strong with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, a huge project that a lot of critics think is his best work.

West kept trying new things with Watch the Throne in 2011 (with Jay-Z), and then Yeezus in 2013, which was kind of minimal and raw. His 2016 album, The Life of Pablo, mixed gospel, rap, and some streaming experiment—he even updated the album after it was released on streaming services. It started at #1 on Billboard.

In 2018, he put out Ye, which was personal and got mixed reactions. It's his shortest solo album. Then came Kids See Ghosts, a collab with Kid Cudi that everyone loved. His 2019 gospel album, Jesus Is King, also hit #1 and won a Grammy.

Donda, which dropped in 2021 after a bunch of listening parties and delays, became one of the most-streamed albums ever on Apple Music and got nominated for a Grammy, including Album of the Year. Donda 2 followed in 2022, but he only released it on his Stem Player, skipping regular streaming. That caused some talks.

Besides his own stuff, West kept producing and working with artists like Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, Nas, and Travis Scott. Also, his Sunday Service thing, which is like a gospel gathering, started in 2019 and became a place for live music stuff.

Even with all the recent drama, Kanye West's music career is still pretty crazy and has had a big impact, with over 20 Grammys and a rep for changing hip-hop and pop.

Here's a look at how much he's made each year:

Yeezy

Kanye West was into fashion way before Yeezy got famous. He's always said that fashion is just as important to him as music. In 2009, he was the first non-athlete to get a shoe deal with Nike, which led to the Air Yeezy I. It didn't make very many of these and it rapidly sold out. Later in 2012, the Air Yeezy II came out, which showed he had even more influence in the shoe game. Before Yeezy, West worked on shoes with Louis Vuitton, Bape, and Giuseppe Zanotti. In 2011 and 2012, he showed off women's collections at Paris Fashion Week, but people just didn't like them much.

In December 2013, things changed when West left Nike because they didn't agree on ideas. He then teamed up with Adidas in a big way. They released the Yeezy Boost 750 in February 2015 and was only available on Adidas mobile app in New York City. People bought them out under 10 minutes. In that same year, West then started Yeezy Season 1, a fashion line that was produced with Adidas. Seasons 2 and 3 happened quickly after, with Season 3 having it premiere at Madison Square Garden during a listening party for his album The Life of Pablo.

By 2016, Adidas and West made a long-term deal to grow the Yeezy brand into its own thing within Adidas. West still owned Yeezy himself, while Adidas took care of making, marketing, and shipping the stuff. From what Forbes says, West got about 10% of money that came from Yeezy sales, with even more for stuff sold on his site, YeezySupply.com.

At its best, Yeezy made over $2 billion each year, making it one of the most popular shoe businesses ever. In 2020, UBS said that Yeezy was worth as much as $3 billion, which made West a billionaire for a bit.

But everything fell apart in 2022 after West said some pretty bad stuff in public. Because of that, Adidas stopped working with West in October, saying what he said didn't match their values. This led to West losing a lot of money. Adidas now had over $1 billion of Yeezy stuff they couldn't sell, so they started selling it off a little bit at a time in 2023 and 2024, and giving some of the money to groups that fight against bad messages.

Even though they split up, West still claims to own Yeezy and has mentioned wanting to bring the line back on his own. In early 2025, West talked about selling Yeezy products in a new way. He did not say how, it would work and that new partners were involved.

G.O.O.D Music

In 2004, Kanye West started G.O.O.D. Music, a record label with Sony BMG. The name means Getting Out Our Dreams, which shows what West wants to do with his music and business. The label was made as a place for Kanye's projects, but also to find and help new artists change music.

G.O.O.D. Music really took off when John Legend dropped Get Lifted in 2004. It was a hit with fans and critics, won a bunch of Grammys, and made Legend a key artist for the label. Then, Common's Be in 2005, almost all produced by West, solidified G.O.O.D. Music's name for mixing smart lyrics with soulful, experimental sounds.

Over the years, G.O.O.D. Music added artists like Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Q-Tip, Teyana Taylor, and others. The label got known for big collaborations, cool sounds, and bridging the gap between mainstream rap and more out-there art.

In 2012, they dropped Cruel Summer, a compilation album with Kanye and other G.O.O.D. Music artists. It hit #2 on the Billboard 200 and had hits like Mercy and Clique. They talked about doing a follow-up called Cruel Winter, but it never happened.

In 2015, Pusha T became the president of G.O.O.D. Music, which gave the label some structure and focus. Under him, they put out projects like Daytona (2018) and Teyana Taylor's K.T.S.E. (2018), both from a bunch of albums West produced in Wyoming.

But, things got tough in the late 2010s due to some issues inside the label and changes in the music industry. Some artists, like Kid Cudi, Desiigner, and Teyana Taylor, left G.O.O.D. Music. In 2022, Big Sean said he left because of financial problems and a lack of honesty.

The worst part was in 2022 when Kanye West's controversies—especially his antisemitic comments—caused problems with his business deals. Artists with G.O.O.D. Music either stayed away from West or didn't say anything. Pusha T quit his executive role and said in 2022 that he wasn't with the label anymore.

Now, G.O.O.D. Music is pretty much just a name from the past, with not much happening. Even though its future is unsure, the label was important in shaping hip-hop in the 21st century and helped launch a lot of artists' careers. For a long time, G.O.O.D. Music showed off Kanye West's taste and his talent for turning experimental stuff into mainstream hits.

Real Estate

Over the years, Kanye West has owned a lot of real estate in the United States (land, buildings, and homes), worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Here's a look at some of his biggest real estate deals:

When they were married, Kim and Kanye's main home was a big place in Hidden Hills, California, near LA. It's made up of a few connected properties, the first of which they bought in 2014 for $23 million. The first version of the property had a new mansion on 4.5 acres. They spent millions over the next few years changing and expanding the house. They expanded the property in 2019, buying nearby properties to make a giant 7.5-acre estate. They spent $28.5 million just on real estate to create the Hidden Hills place. They spent tens of millions more on renovations. It's now worth over $60 million. In September 2021, Kim paid Kanye $23 million to get the property in her name. About $3 million of that was for the stuff inside the house.

In September 2021, Kanye paid $57.3 million for a beachfront house in Malibu. Tadao Ando designed the house, and it was built in 2013 for a Wall Street guy named Richard Sachs. Sachs spent seven years getting permits and building it. The finished house is 4,000 square feet and is made of a lot of concrete and steel. Kanye never actually lived there. He listed it in December 2023 for $53 million. The listing agent said that buyers would have to spend several million dollars to make the house livable after Kanye's construction projects, which were never finished. Kanye sold the house for $21 million in late 2024, taking a $36 million loss.

He has also owned:

·       A 320-acre property on Stokes Canyon Road in Calabasas worth $16 million. This is where he held his Sunday Services and tried to build domed structures before the LA County Building Commission stopped him because of permit issues.

·       A 6,700-acre ranch called Bighorn Mountain Ranch in Wyoming – $15 million

·       Commercial property in Cody, Wyoming for $2 million

·       Kanye West also owns his childhood home in Chicago

·       In late 2019, Kanye paid $14 million for another ranch in Wyoming called Monster.

·       Lake Ranch. He sold this ranch in June 2024.

Personal Life

Kanye West's personal life has gotten a lot of media attention and has often been tied to his art and public image. From 2002 to 2008, he was with fashion designer Alexis Phifer. They were engaged for a bit before calling it off in 2008. That same year, he started dating model Amber Rose. It was a big relationship that lasted until 2010 and later caused public fights between West, Rose, and her future partner Wiz Khalifa.

In April 2012, Ye started dating Kim Kardashian, who's a reality TV celeb and businesswoman. People couldn't stop talking about them as a couple. They got married on May 24, 2014, in a fancy wedding at Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy. They have four kids: North (born in 2013), Saint (born in 2015), Chicago (born in 2018 via surrogate), and Psalm (born in 2019 via surrogate).

During their marriage, Ye and Kardashian often worked together in public, mixing fashion, music, and reality TV. But, around early 2021, things started going south amid news of Ye's strange behavior and political ambitions. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, and it was finalized in 2022. Even though they split, they're supposedly still raising their kids together. After the divorce, Ye was briefly seeing actress and model Julia Fox.

Later, in January 2023, news broke that Ye had married Bianca Censori, an Australian who works for Yeezy, in a private ceremony in Beverly Hills that wasn't legally binding. Not much is known about their relationship, but they've been seen out together a lot.

In October 2021, Ye legally changed his name to Ye, which he'd been using for years and often mentioned in his music. A judge in Los Angeles approved the name change, which shows his desire to make his public image simpler.
