Early life

Born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi, Kohli belongs to a Punjabi Hindu family. His mother, Saroj Kohli, is a housewife, while his father, Prem Nath Kohli, was a criminal lawyer. Kohli has an elder brother, Vikas Sharma Kohli, and an elder sister, Bhawna. Kohli spent most of his early years in Uttam Nagar. He completed his early schooling at Vishal Bharti Public School. He had shown an early inclination towards cricket from the age of 3, as stated by his family. He would pick up a bat and would tell his father to bowl to him. West Delhi Cricket Academy was created in 1998. In May, his father got him introduced to Rajkumar Sharma. Kohli's father thought about sending him to a professional cricket academy based on the recommendations of their neighbours, who felt that his talent was deserving of more than gully cricket. Owing to certain unfavourable considerations, he could not secure a position in the U-14 Delhi team. As per reports, Kohli's father had received offers to move his son to some influential clubs, which could have ensured his selection, but he turned down the proposals. Kohli finally made his way to the U-15 team,8 after being coached at the academy and playing matches at the Sumeet Dogra Academy at Vasundhara Enclave. He changed to Saviour Convent School for the betterment of his cricketing career in ninth grade. On December 18, 2006, he was declared dead due to a cerebral attack. Kohli's mother stated that his attitude changed quite a lot after his father passed away. Cricket was taken very seriously by him, as he just seemed to be able to concentrate on time to play cricket now. Kohli's family was living in Meera Bagh, Paschim Vihar, until 2015, when they shifted to Gurgaon.

International Career: Part 2

India had a complete clean sweep against Australia in a home Test series in early 2013. After a couple of months, India emerged as the ICCChampions Trophy winners for the first time against England. Kohli then captained the team as it headed into the triangular series in the West Indies, which, incidentally, went on to defeat Zimbabwe 5-0 in the next five-match ODI tour in Zimbabwe. India's winning streak continued with a victory in the seven-match ODI series against Australia. Kohli was named Test captain for the first time in December of 2014, when he went to Australia. On the tour of Bangladesh in the summer of 2015, Kohli became the first Test captain to win a series in that endeavor. The next year, he significantly contributed to India's triumph in the Asia Cup. In 2017, Kohli scored 2818 international runs, making him the third-highest in a single year and of course, the highest ever for an Indian.

In that tour of South Africa in 2018, India won the ODI series 5-1. The side went on to win the tour of England and then completed the Test series in Australia. In 2019, Kohli was appointed captain of the Indian squad for the Cricket World Cup. Later, he captained the national team in the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final and 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. After the latest tournament, Kohli declared his retirement as ODI captain. In early 2022, he stepped down from his Test captaincy.

Equally, Kohli has played with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League. He led the team as captain for eight seasons. Having started out pretty poorly, Kohli gradually emerged as one of the top run scorers on behalf of the team. He took the Challengers to playoffs in IPL 2015 and helped the team end second in IPL 2016. In addition, he scored the most runs in a season of the IPL ever in 2016, at 973, and later became, in 2021, the only player to ever achieve 6,000 IPL runs.
