Early life
Cameron Michelle Diaz's birthday is on August 30,
1972. Cameron was born in San Diego, California. Billie Diaz (Early name) was
her mother, who was an import-export agent, and Emilio Diaz, her father, was a
foreman in California at the oil company Unocal. Diaz has a sister named
Chimene. The ancestry of her father is Cuban, and the roots of Diaz's family
moved from Spain to Cuba. Diaz said her ancestors came originally from Cadiz in
Spain. At a later time, the family settled in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida, before
moving into the area of Los Angeles, in which her father was born. Her mother
was predominantly English and German by descent. Diaz was reared in Long Beach
and attended Los Cerritos Elementary School and later Long Beach Polytechnic
High School, where she went to school with Snoop Dogg. She recalls her
upbringing as austere by stating: I had amazing parents; they were awesome. We
weren't indeed privileged; just the opposite. My family would collect cans
because twenty dollars was a lot for us. But we were very happy.
While still in high school, Diaz signed the modeling
contract with Elite Model Management at the age of sixteen, appeared in
campaigns for Calvin Klein and Levi's, and was featured the following year, at
seventeen, on the cover of Seventeen magazine's July issue. In 1991, Diaz also
spent two or three months in Australia modeling and filmed a commercial for
Coca-Cola in Sydney.
Diaz hails from San Diego, California. Raised in Long Beach,
California. While still in high school, Diaz signed a modeling contract with
Elite Model Management. At age 21, she made her film debut alongside Jim Carrey
in the comedy The Mask (1994) and had a supporting role in the romantic comedy
My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) before taking on the title role in There's
Something About Mary (1998), the Farrelly brothers' comedy that catapulted her
to greater celebrity and earned her her first Golden Globe nod. Diaz's next two
projects, the sports drama Any Given Sunday and Spike Jonze's fantasy film
Being John Malkovich (both 1999), soon lent her recognition as a dramatic
actress.
Cameron Diaz salary and net worth
Cameron Diaz is a
model and actress from California with a net worth of $140 million. Cameron
Diaz had reached star status in international scope by appearing in the movie
"The Mask" opposite Jim Carrey in 1994. She continues to be on the
A-list of Hollywood since then, taking part in hundreds of films and making
several hundred million behind the cameras. Total box office ticket sales are
more than $7 billion, making her the fifth highest-grossing U.S. actress today.
She went on vacation from acting for ten years in between 2014 and 2024.
She started her career as a model in adverts for Calvin
Klein and Levi's, on the cover of various other magazines like Seventeen,
before she turned her attention to acting. She had a short toe-in-the-water
foray into the soft-porn industry before auditioning for a role in a comedy
starring up-and-coming actor Jim Carrey. She was cast in what would eventually
be known as "The Mask," which ended up being one of the
highest-grossing feature projects for the year; and she was off. The next
couple of years were spent working a vocation out by taking acting classes and
doing smaller, independent, lower-profile projects. This strategy worked
because upon her return to the mainstream she had become a more capable actress
and a bigger box-office draw. Since that time, she has gone on to be involved
in such projects as "Feeling Minnesota," "My Best Friend's
Wedding," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," "There's
Something About Mary," "Being John Malkovich," "Charlie's
Angels" franchise, "Vanilla Sky," "Gangs of New York,"
"My Sister's Keeper," "Bad Teacher," and "What to
Expect When You're Expecting," to name many others.
Success
At 21, Diaz returned to Southern California, where she knew
no one in the industry, auditioned for and won the female lead opposite Jim
Carrey in the 1994 film "The Mask." She actually had her first acting
class AFTER she'd been cast. The movie went on to gross more than $340 million
around the world and turned Cameron into an overnight star. More and more film
work came by in the following few years, such as "My Best Friend's
Wedding" in 1997. One year later, Cameron's career would skyrocket a notch
higher as the leading lady in the comedy "There's Something About
Mary." The film raked in around $369 million worldwide, garnering Diaz
with her first Golden Globe nod. She quickly followed that up by more award
nominations for her role in "Being John Malkovich," which was a
critical darling out of the box. Diaz featured in successful movies, such as
"Charlie's Angels" (which grossed approximately $264 million
worldwide), Vanilla Sky, for which Diaz also received four prestigious award
nominations, and the Academy Award-winning film "Gangs of New York."
More films she featured in include "In Her Shoes,"
"The Holiday," "What Happens in Vegas," "My Sister's
Keeper," "Knight and Day," "The Green Hornet,"
"Bad Teacher," "Sex Tape," "Annie," and many
more.
Diaz voiced Princess Fiona in the Shrek film series, and the
second one, "Shrek 2," grossed around $919 million globally.
Notable Salaries
Cameron had earnings from base film salaries of over $160
million between 1998 and 2011, during the prime of her career. Nowadays, she
demands at least $10 mill for her starring role and this number will peek as
high as $20 million. She also made $2 million from "There's Something
About Mary". Diaz received the fantastic pay of $12 million for
"Charlie's Angels" and then $20 million for the sequel
"Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" (directed by McG). She was the
third actress in history to crack the $20 million movie paycheck milestone.
Cameron earned $17.5 million for "Gangs of New York".
Cameron received $3 million for the first "Shrek"
movie. She pocketed $10 million for the sequel in 2004. It took a whopping $45
million from Netflix to cast Diaz in two Netflix movies to ensure that she
comes out of a decade-long retirement.
Bad Teacher Salary
In lieu of a large cut for on the front end, Cameron
accepted only $1 million for 2011's "Bad Teacher" in return for a
nice cut of the backend gross of the movie. The movie went on to earn more than
$210 million worldwide, and when it was all said and done, Cameron walked away
with $42 million. That's enough to be one of the 20 highest single-film
paychecks ever earned by an actor.
Retirement
Cameron retired from acting in 2014 and basically stuck with
this declaration until the announcement that she would be returning, alongside
Jamie Foxx, in a Netflix action-comedy called "Back in Action," which
was revealed in June 2022. Hired in 2009, the Walk of Fame star was positioned
alongside Cameron Diaz on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Real Estate
Cameron has owned, and still owns, a lot of really
impressive properties across the U.S., mostly in New York and California. A
year later, she bought a home above the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles for $1.34
million, selling it to Ariana Grande in 2022 for $4.9 million. Diaz still
retains a much larger Beverly Hills compound that she picked up in 2010 for
$9.5 million from fellow actress Candice Bergen. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden
live a few houses down the block in a home that Nicole purchased in 2015 for $6.7
million.
In New York, she for many years owned a loft in Greenwich
Village which she sold in 2015 for $4 million. But there aren't any worries for
Cameron in that regard because she has the $9.5 million condo she bought in
2013 in Chelsea. In 2022, Diaz and Madden bought a house in Montecito,
California, for $12.67 million, covering an area of 11,000 square-foot.
In October 2020, they bought a new mansion for 14.7 million
dollars in Beverly Hills. This 9,000-square-foot homes have seven bedrooms and
ten bathrooms and sits on 1.7 acres. The house is located in a gated community
at the top of Beverly Hills. They listed this home for sale in Jule 2024 for
$17.8 million.
