So, Kim Dae Ho, you know He's quite the familiar face. After finishing up at Yangpyeong High School, he snagged a business degree from Hongik University. Then, bam! He kicked off his career in 2011 on MBC's "The New Employee." Since then, he's been a regular on those big-name variety shows like "I Live Alone" and "King of Mask Singer."
Things really took off for him about a year later. Some of
the more senior folks at MBC left because of a labor strike, and suddenly, Kim
was stepping into bigger roles. He ended up doing a lot of entertainment,
culture, and even news segments. Before 2017, he was mostly hosting those more
thoughtful, liberal arts programs. But since 2018, he's been anchoring current
affairs and news. Oh, and he also helps out as an assistant MC on MBC's
"Unification Observatory."
Kim Dae-ho Is Leaving MBC
After 14 years, Kim Dae-ho is
leaving MBC. Yep, the broadcaster confirmed it, saying they'd officially parted
ways. He announced this himself on the "I Live Alone" episode – said
he felt it was the perfect time to really take the reins of his own life, and
that it was going to be an exciting new chapter. Pretty bold, right?
And get this, he actually spilled some tea on "Radio
Star" back in 2023. Apparently, MBC announcers don't get paid extra for
broadcasts, and their hourly rate is capped at around 40,000 won, which is
about $30. He also mentioned that while he *could* take on outside gigs with
the company's OK, he had to turn down *fifteen* commercial offers because of
MBC's rules. Fifteen! Imagine the money left on the table.
Kim actually joined MBC back in 2011 as part of their
50th-anniversary celebration. He's racked up some impressive awards since then,
too – think Rookie Award in 2023, and then Entertainer of the Year and BestMale Show/Variety Performer in 2024. "I Live Alone" and "Where
Is My Home?" are just two of the shows that have made him a household
name.
On his last day, he told the press that all the support he's
received made his 14 years at MBC feel worthwhile. When asked about "I
Live Alone" and "Where Is My Home?", he was a bit vague, saying
he wasn't sure yet and that MBC's stance would matter.
He also admitted that he's had offers from various
entertainment agencies, but he hasn't decided anything yet. However, he did
hint that down the road, he might need an agency to help manage his schedule,
which definitely has people curious about what's next for him.
