Early life
Austin Sinclair was born on July 18, 1967, in
Alameda County, California, where his mom was from, but later moved to New York
City along with his fraternal twin brother Paul. Diesel's mother is an
astrologer; her name is Delora Sherleen Vincent, and she brought him up with an
adoptive African-American father, Irving H. Vincent, who himself was an acting
instructor and a theater manager. Diesel himself has said that he is "of
ambiguous ethnicity." His mother is of Scottish descent. He has never met
his biological father and has stated, "All I know from my mother is that I
have connections to many different cultures"; Diesel claims that his
parents' relationship would have been illegal in certain American states owing
to anti-miscegenation laws.
Diesel made his theatrical debut at the age
of seven in a children's play titled Dinosaur Door, written by Barbara Garson,
staged at Theater for the New City in Greenwich Village, New York. He had
gained entry to the play because he, his brother, and some friends had broken
into the Theater for the New City space on Jane Street with the intent to
vandalize it. Crystal Field, the artistic director of the theater, walked upon
them, and offered them roles in the upcoming show rather than calling the
police. Diesel remained with the theater until adolescence. He went to Hunter
College in New York City; his studies there in creative writing led to
screenwriting of his own. He has identified himself as a
"multi-faceted" actor.
Sinclair had begun using the stage name
"Vin Diesel" while he worked as a bouncer at the Tunnel nightclub in
New York, wanting a tougher-sounding name for his profession. Vin is from his
mother's married surname, Vincent; the surname Diesel came from his friends
because of his tendency to be energetic.

It may come as no surprise that Vin Diesel is
a passionate collector of vehicles. His collection of classic American
automobiles includes (or has included) a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and a 1970Dodge Charger R/T, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Grand Sport, a 1970
Chevrolet Chevelle, a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, and

Fast and the Furious" gave him a 1970 Dodge Charger "Tantrum"
custom-made by SpeedKore Performance Group with a 9.0-liter twin-turbo V8
engine producing 1,650 hp. He is also said to own a 2011 Dodge Charger SRT-8, a
2010 BMW E60 M5, and the extremely rare 2014 Lykan Hypersport. The Hypersport
is valued at $3.4 million and has jewel-encrusted headlights.
Real
Estate
Diesel purchased a 1,517-square-foot house in
February 2000 for $562,500. In 2016, he listed the two-bedroom, three-bathroom
house for $1.4 million. The space got a little crowded for him with three kids.
He had rented it since listing, for $5,800 per month. The kitchen flows into a
dining area and living space. The master suite features beamed ceilings and
French doors. The master bath has a sunken tub. The yard is equipped with a
