1. Billy Ray Cyrus and
Tish Cyrus filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage in April 2022
They wed in 1993 when Tish was pregnant with their second
biological child, Braison, and have five children together, including Miley and
Noah Cyrus. The estranged couple has previously filed for divorce in 2010 and
2013, but this time it seems different. According to court documents, for the
last two years, the exes had been separated, and between April to June, Tish
reportedly filed for divorce again.
2. Kris Jenner and
Caitlyn Jenner were officially divorced in 2015 after 24 years of marriage
The Jenners' relationship was established on Keeping Up
with the Kardashians since the very first episode, although by then, they had
been married for 16 years and had two daughters, Kendall and Kylie.Their
relationship, however, was infinitely more complicated, and the audience got to
see its deterioration on national TV; they called themselves legally separated
in 2013, with Kris filing for divorce the following year. The split was
formalised in 2015. After separation, the erstwhile Olympic athlete declared
that she was a trans woman and took the name Caitlyn, with the processes
documented on I Am Cait on E!
3. Chris Rock was
married to Malaak Compton-Rock from 1996 to 2016 for 20 years
Comedian, former SNL cast member and another recent recipient of one of his famous slaps got married to Compton several years after leaving the iconic sketch show. They share two daughters together.
Fans began to muse that there might be troubles in paradise when Rock turned director, co-writer and actor in the 2007 comedy I Think I Love My Wife-a movie about a self-respecting man married who is now struck on by an old friend who returns in his life. But the couple has claimed that their married life is strong.
But, then, on 2014, seven years later, Rock filed for divorce; their divorce was finalized in 2016. "You get to reset," said Rock on his divorce in 2017. "It's not a breakdown but something in your life broke down."
4. Maria Shriver and
Arnold Schwarzenegger were divorced in 2011 after 25 years of marriage
These two were, once upon a time, political and Hollywood
royalty, as Schwarzenegger was a mega movie star and the governor of California
and Shriver was his first lady and a member of the Kennedy dynasty.
But the cat was out of the bag in 2011 when scandals surrounding the Terminator star's extra-marital affair with housekeeper Mildred Patricia Baena and their lovechild Joseph were made public. The divorce papers filed by Shriver went on to be officially settled a decade later in 2021. They were married for 35 years in total. When asked about his biggest regret on a Reddit AMA, in 2014 Schwarzenegger responded, "I'm least proud of the mistakes I made that caused my family pain and split us up."
5. Sam Shepard and
Jessica Lange were an item for nearly 30 years before announcing their split in
2011
Lange and Shepard, who died in 2017 from complications of
ALS, began their romantic affair in 1982 upon their meeting on the set of the
movie Frances. They had two kids together in 1985 and 1986.
"We have long periods of relative calm," said Shepard in 2010 while talking about the relationship with Lange. "But, you know, not without fireworks. At this point, she's really the only woman I could live with. Who could live with me? What other woman would put up with me?" The day the news of Shepard's death was announced, an interview featuring Lange appeared in AARP magazine. "I wouldn't call Sammy easy-going and funny, but everybody has their dark side, and he always does it with a sense of humor," she recalled of her former partner.
6. Morgan Freeman and
Myrna Colley-Lee announced their separation after 26 years of matrimony in
2010.
Like the other couples in this list, Freeman and Colley-Lee
parted ways for three years before officially ending their marriage-the
separation took place in 2007, and the divorce became final in the year 2010.
"It was done without a trial," said Freeman's account holder, William
R. Wright-to The Associated Press. "Everybody is glad it's over."
7. Harrison Ford is
married three times - longest to Melissa Mathison, which lasted for 20 years
Ford got married with screen writer Mathison, who died in
2015, in 1983, a year upon the end of the filming of Star Wars, where he
portrayed the memorable character Han Solo. They had two children born to them.
News about their separation came through in 2000 as Ford was spotted with
actress Lara Flynn Boyle.
Ford had been engaged with Flockhart for two years by the
time their divorce was finalized in 2004; they married in 2010. Ford and
Flockhart are now one of the longest-lasting couples in Hollywood with more
than 20 years of marriage which has been spent together while 12 of them have
been spent within the bounds of marriage.
8. Gwen Stefani and
Gavin Rossdale remained married for the period of 20 years.
Stefani and Rossdale had met as early as 1995 when their
respective bands-the No Doubt and Bush, were performing at the same local radio
station. They had been together for over six years before tying the knot in
2002. The rock stars were blessed with three sons. However, in 2015, it
surfaced that their divorce had come about with Gwen Stefani citing
"irreconcilable differences".
Stefani said, in an interview with Time in March 2016 on
how her music got inspiration from her divorce, that "it was not until I
had to go through the worst tragedy that it really opened up a channel for me
to be like, 'God gave me a gift. I'm going to use it now. Because if I don't,
I'm going to die.'" Stefani said. Stefani shared with the rest of the
world that her music was influenced by her divorce.
