Early life
Moretz was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in
Cartersville, Georgia. McCoy "Mac" Moretz (1957-2021), was a plastic
surgeon and the heir to the Moretz hosiery business, which was bought out in
2011 for $350 million. She has four older brothers: Brandon, Trevor, Colin, and
Ethan. An older sister, Kathleen, died shortly after birth. She has described
her family as "very Christian," specifically Southern Baptist. She
moved to New York City in 2002, with her mother and brother Trevor, because he
had been accepted into the Professional Performing Arts School, which was what
first drew her into acting. Moretz would help Trevor read lines.
Rising Star
Chloë Grace Moretz (born February 10, 1997) is an American
actress. She began acting at a young age with notable appearances in an array
of horror films like The Amityville Horror (2005), Desperate Housewives
(2006-2007), The Eye (2008), besides becoming known for The Poker House (2008),
the romantic comedy involved in 500 Days of Summer (2009), and Diary of a Wimpy
Kid (2010). Breaking out in stardom in 2010 with her role as Hit-Girl in the
superhero film Kick-Ass.
In Martin Scorsese's adventure film Hugo, Tim Burton's
horror comedy titled Dark Shadows (2012) and the sitcom 30 Rock (2011-2013),
reprised her role as Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass 2 (2013) and starred Carrie White in
the horror film Carrie (2013). Moretz began 2014 with the drama production
Clouds of Sils Maria and an action film called The Equalizer. Moretz will be
appearing in Dark Places and on soon-to-be-known titles as The 5th Wave and
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
The actress then went on to feature in The Miseducation of
Cameron Post (2018), a drama film, and in Neil Jordan's thriller film Greta
(2018). She voiced the character Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (2019),
The Addams Family 2 (2021), and will be lending her voice to the titular
character in Nimona (2023).
Onstage, Moretz starred in the original off-broadway stage
show The Library (2014) at The Public Theater in New York City. She will appear
in an off-broadway production titled Caroline at the MCC Theater starting in
September 2025.
Other Work and Personal Life
Aside from acting, Moretz has appeared on the covers of
various fashion and lifestyle magazines, and she often receives high praises
for her sophisticated yet age-appropriate style. Her brother, Brandon, serves
as her business manager, and her other brother, Trevor, has been her acting
coach since she got her first role. Highly outspoken feminist and LGBTQ rights
advocate, Chloë was included in the list of most influential teens of "Time"
magazine in 2014.
Real Estate
In February 2016, Chloë purchased a house in Studio City,
California for $3.4 million. Up to that point, Moretz and her parents had been
renting a house in Bel-Air, where the reported rent was $10,000 a month. Chloë
listed her Studio City property for sale, which she bought from the studios, in
February 2023 at $6 million.
