Klay Thompson Worth And His Salary
Klay Thompson, the basketball dude, is worth around $140
million. He makes $32 million each year playing ball. Plus, he picks up another
$15-20 million from stuff like endorsements.
Klay's one of the best at shooting three-pointers ever, part
of the famous Splash Brothers with Stephen Curry. Since getting drafted in
2011, he's had a killer career: five All-Star nods, a couple of All NBA Third
Team spots, and he even made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. He's won four
NBA championships (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022), won the Three-Point Contest in
2016, and grabbed gold medals at the Olympics and World Cup with Team USA. He's
known for being great at catching and shooting, always near the top of the
league in three-pointers, like in 2022-23.
After a couple of rough seasons in 2019-20 and 2020-21
because of knee and Achilles injuries, he got back on track and helped the
Warriors win the 2022 championship. In his first 12 seasons, he was scoring
almost 20 points a game, shooting around 45.5% from the field, 41.6% from
three, and 85.2% from the free-throw line.
After 13 seasons with the Warriors, he signed a three-year,
$50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks in July 2024, teaming up with Luka
Dončić and Kyrie Irving. In his first season with the Mavericks (2024–25), he
scored 14.0 points, grabbed 3.4 rebounds, and had 2.0 assists in 72 games,
shooting 41.2% from the field and 39.1% from three.
Contracts, Paychecks, and Career Earnings
Klay Thompson has made over $280 million in salary alone
during his NBA career. After his first contract with the Golden State Warriors,
he signed a four-year, $70 million extension in 2014. In 2019, even after
tearing his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson signed a five-year, $190
million max deal with the Warriors. That meant he earned about $38 million a
year, keeping him among the top-paid players, even when he was out with
injuries.
In July 2024, Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million
contract with the Dallas Mavericks. This ended his 13 years with the Warriors
and pays him around $16.7 million each year. If you add in deals with brands
like Anta, Gillette, and BodyArmor, he's made over $350 million from salary and
endorsements.
Anta Shoe Deal
Klay signed a 10-year deal with the Chinese shoe brand Anta
in June 2017. He gets a base salary of $80 million total, $8 million each year.
He can also make extra money if he hits certain sales goals.
His Early Days and College Ball
Klay Thompson was born in Los Angeles, California, on
February 8, 1990. His parents are Julie, who played volleyball in college, and
Mychal, who played in the NBA. He has two brothers, Mychel and Trayce. When
Klay was a toddler, his family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he became
friends with Kevin Love, who also became an NBA player. Then, when he was 14,
Klay moved to Ladera Ranch, California, and went to Santa Margarita Catholic
High School. As a senior, he helped his basketball team win a lot of games and
get to the Division III State Championship. In that game, he set a record by
making seven three-pointers. He was named Division III State Player of the Year
and League MVP.
Klay went to Washington State University for college. As a
freshman, he started every game and made the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team. In his
second year, he led the Cougars to win the Great Alaska Shootout Championship
and was named the Most Outstanding Player. He also made the All-Pac-10 First
Team after scoring 1,000 points faster than almost anyone else in Cougars
history. As a junior in 2011, Thompson was the top scorer in the Pac-10 and
made the All-Pac-10 first team again. During the Pac-10 tournament, he scored a
record 43 points and made eight three-pointers. He ended the season with 733
points, the most anyone had ever scored in a single season for Washington
State.
Starting His Pro Career
After his junior year, Thompson entered the 2011 NBA draft.
He was picked 11th overall by the Golden State Warriors. Klay did well his
first season and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In his second
year, he and Stephen Curry made a crazy 483 three-pointers together, the most
ever by two players in the NBA. They broke that record the next year.
NBA Championships
Klay started having more success with the Warriors in the
2014-15 season when he signed a four-year contract extension. The next day, he
scored a personal best 41 points in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He
then beat that in January 2015, scoring 52 points with 11 three-pointers
against the Sacramento Kings. Klay helped his team get to the NBA Finals that
season, where they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, giving the Warriors their
first NBA championship in 40 years. The Warriors also made history in the
2015-16 season, becoming only the second team to win 70 games in a season. They
made it to the finals again but lost to the Cavaliers this time.
In the 2016-17 season, Thompson became the first NBA player
to score 60 points in under 30 minutes. He also scored the most points by a
Warriors player in over 42 years. The team made it to their third NBA Finals in
a row, facing the Cavaliers again and winning their second championship in
three years. The Warriors had the best playoff record ever, 16-1. Klay and his
team won another championship the next year, beating the Cavaliers again.
More Playing and Injuries
Thompson and the Warriors made it to the NBA Finals for the
fifth year in a row in 2019, this time playing the Toronto Raptors. With the
Raptors up 3-2, Thompson tore his ACL in Game 6 and had to leave. The Warriors
lost to the Raptors. The next season, Klay signed a five-year, $190 million
contract to stay with the Warriors. He had surgery on his ACL and missed the
entire 2019-20 season. He also missed the 2020-21 season because of an Achilles
injury.
World Cup and Olympics
Klay has also played for the US national team. In 2014, he
was on the team that won a gold medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in
Spain. He also played for the US at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in2016, winning another gold medal.
His Life and Charity Work
From 2018 to 2020, Klay was seeing actress Laura Harrier. In
July 2025, he started going out with rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Klay has also done some charity work, helping raise money
for those affected by the 2017 Northern California wildfires. He donated $1,000
for every point he scored in home games against the Toronto Raptors, Detroit
Pistons, and Washington Wizards. With help from sponsors and fans, he turned
that into over $5,000 per point. He raised around $360,000 across those three
games.
